Puzzles can be really, really hard but I never felt annoyed. It may be presented as a Myst-clone, but I prefer it over Myst anytime (there, I said it).Įach game took me a good 20-25 hours to finish and I did not regret a single moment I spent in the RHEM world.

If you think Myst requires observation, try RHEM.

They are very hard, full of challenging puzzles, complex worlds & will make your brain melt. These games were created by a single guy who probably is a genius. Currently, there are 4 games in the series, each one being a masterpiece. The main story is that someone calls you to RHEM, a strange puzzling place, in order to help him retrieve an artifact (to be honest, that's about all the story in the series). This thread could not be started by me if I did not mention RHEM. I remember the day it was released here, I was so ecstatic! Some forum members also told me how they were waiting for my reaction since I was constantly asking for it in various threads :)Īlso, let's not forget about the sequel which we need here GOG ( Shivers II) I still haven't found a similar game that beats this atmosphere! I won't go into details here, but you can read my review on the game page. (On the other hand, it may just be buried in the forums forever rather quickly)Īs a starting point, I would like to mention Shivers, which is my favorite 1st person adventure game of all time. So, what is this thread about? It is meant to be an appreciation thread for 1st person point 'n click adventure games, which may also hopefully serve as a list of such games that still haven't made it to GOG. (Ironically, I can't stand first-person action/shooter games as I get motion-sick rather easily). As you can imagine from the thread title, I have a deep love for this kind of adventure games. Games You Might Not Have Tried #20 - April 1st Edition! Some of these games are definitely not appropriate for children, and some may have triggering or traumatizing content, so please do additional research as desired before buying or gifting any games. On a similar note, if you are a developer with a game and want to email us a link or review keys for your game: please know that emailing us does not inherently increase the likelihood of a game being played or considered for inclusion in GYMNHT-we still use game review sites, social media, word-of-mouth tips from friends, etc. (We sometimes post our affiliate links in the video descriptions if the game is available on the Humble Store or Amazon.) We are not paid, and do not accept payments, to put any particular games in GYMNHT-these are all games that have been played and picked out by staff based on personal preferences. Not all games on here are considered “indie” or extremely under-the-radar-sometimes you’ll see popular games on here because they still offer something unique to learn from. There is no ranking or review score assigned to any of these games. When we started making GYMNHT videos, our goal was to introduce people to games that they can learn something from-usually these games feature interesting mechanics, art, narrative, music, or other components that are unique (or at the very least, unique for the time that they were published) and are worth taking the time to try out, especially as part of a game developer’s education.Ī game being on this list is not an indication of its quality-a few of them are genuinely bad by our own standards, others are good but maybe not necessarily “great,” etc. The easiest way to search this sheet is with the Find function (Ctrl + F).
